UK Government Market Transformation Programme

Programme Area Manager for External Power Supplies, Broadband and Video Recorders. Responsibilities cover:

  1. a complete rework of the current UK models for external power supplies (EPS)

  2. updating of the UK models for Broadband and Video Recorders

  3. meeting attendance with UK stakeholders, gathering and compiling of relevant data.

  4. responding to stakeholders (including DEFRA) technical enquiries

  5. Meeting attendance as a UK stakeholder at the European Code of Conduct meetings in Ispra, Italy.

EuP process

  1. Assessment of the EC commissioned preparatory study on External Power Supplies.

  2. Assessment of the European Commission working documents on the Implementing Measures in support of UK Government policy.

  3. Involvement in the consultation process with UK stakeholders, to give UK industry the opportunity to officially respond to the proposed measures.

  4. Technical assessment of how the Implementing Measures may affect the UK.

Support of the International Standard IEC 62087 Methods of measurement for the power consumption of audio, video and related equipment.

  1. Assisted in the production of viewing test material for international testing to the revision of the standard.

  2. Measurement and analysis of power consumption measurements, comparing results using the old and revised IEC test methodology.

  3. Study of TV power consumption in an international test, to see how the revised IEC test methodology could be interpreted.

Support for the development of the ENERGY STAR® test methodology and the development of new criteria

  1. Measurement of the power consumption of desktop computers, laptop computers, computer monitors, NAS devices, projectors, monitors, printers, TVs and digital photo frames for submission to the EPA and Ecma to assist in development of new test methodology and new criteria.


The information below summarises the projects that I have been involved with at Intertek.

  1. Compliance testing of AV and ICT equipment to appropriate IEC and BS EN standards.

  2. Project management of a large UK Broadband Internet Service Providers comparison test.

  3. Research and testing of computer related consumer hardware and software products and services.

  4. Surveillance of UK PC repair services by applying known faults to samples.

  5. Internet access control system testing - essentially testing internet filters that block access to unsuitable content available on the internet. I find this project personally rewarding as I have two young children of my own, one of which is particularly computer savvy, who could easily  inadvertently happen upon this content - some of which can be extremely horrific.
